AAU organized a lecture entitled “The role of the General Directorate of penal and correctional institutions in qualifying and rehabilitate the sentenced person”
In collaboration with the College of Law, the Deanship of Student Affairs at the Al Ain University –Al Ain Campus- organized a lecture about “The role of the General Directorate of penal and correctional institutions in qualifying and rehabilitate the sentenced person”, presented by Colonel Atiq Al Dhaheri - General Director, General Directorate of penal and correctional institutions – Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Dr. Hussein Al Mougy –Dean of the College of Law, Academic staff and students of the college.
The Colonel talked about the role of the General Directorate of penal and correctional institutions in qualifying and rehabilitate the sentenced person, as these institutions aims to stop them in returning back to criminality by following specialized methods of care and treatment, find an integrated humane care, educate the sentenced on the principles of science, ethics and religion and teaching him a good career for his future.
He also talked about the ways of dealing with sentenced in penal institutions in the United Arab Emirates from the beginning of the execution until the release of the convict, for example: the health and social care, education, religious discipline and work. Colonel Al Dhaheri presented some real examples which showed the follow-up care after the release of the accused by helping them to find a job, house and solve what stand in the way of integrating into community as a result of the period spent within the penal institution. This phase should begin before the release and continue thereafter in accordance with the needs and requirements of each who has been released separately.
At the end of the lecture, Dr. Al Mougy thanked Colonel Al Dhaheri and Dr. Al Kharsha for their efforts and honored them by presenting an appreciation certificates.
